HOW COUNTRY WOOLENS STARTED
Ann and Dick Squire were both born and raised in the town of Westport, MA. Soon after their marriage, they knew Westport would be their home forever and began to raise their three sons in town as well. Around this time, they were in search of a location to open a small business of their own. Dick noticed that the building at 842 Main Road that was once a barn appeared vacant because there were no tracks in snowy driveway that winter of 1977.
It was that year the building was purchased, and Country Woolens was opened as a sweater and yarn shop. Ann never knew as a child that the school she attended and playground she played marbles at would be right next door to her future business as a grown woman.
